As I prepared for the finale of NBC’s the Biggest Loser I used The Biggest Loser Protein by Designer Whey. I wanted to get the absolute most out of every workout. Designer Whey products gave me the edge that I needed to be the Biggest Loser. Clearly I worked very hard and for several hours. By caring for my body and making good choices I was able to keep up an incredible workout schedule. Designer Whey has a ratio of protein to total calories that fit well within my “calorie budget”. I was very precise in every workout and meal while I was on the Biggest Loser. And I am very precise as I am now trying to marathon train and build muscle. I have a very specific routine I follow for diet and exercise. As I prepare for the Yuma Territorial Marathon, the Phoenix Marathon and the LA Marathon I will be using Designer Whey products to help fuel my workouts.

Matthew used Designer Whey's 'Protein Blitz' line while I was on The Ranch to assist in his progress while building lean muscle and I can't wait to do the same! Because on the Ranch I learned... WHAT YOU'RE FOR STRENGTHENS YOU... and let's face it, nothing strengthens you like building muscle!

Biggest Loser fans who tuned in to Season 11 will remember Jay Jacobs as the “teflon” contestant. He persisted and never gave up his committment to weight loss, securing a coveted spot in the “Final Four”. If you don’t yet know Jay, here’s a little bit about him:

LBS LOST: 181 on the show, 216 from his highest weight a year ago.

GOAL: To inspire and motivate people to discover their personal potential to live life beyond their wildest dreams!

ABOUT: The only man left standing in the Final 4 of NBC’s hit show Biggest Loser Season 11. Known as the man with “nine lives”, Jay tattooed on his forearm the BIGGEST lesson he learned on the Ranch…WHAT YOU’RE FOR STRENGTHENS YOU [what he didn't tattoo on his arm was the other part of the quote... what you're against weakens you]

Never could I have imagined just a year ago weighing in at 435 pounds that I would be where I am today. Being a contestant on Season 11 of NBC’s The Biggest Loser definitely gave me the “fast pass” to get my life on track, my weight under control, and my head in the best place it has been in decades! And most amazing, myself, my wife, my daughter, and my son are now collectively 395 pounds lighter than our highest weights and we’re ecstatic about that!

We all know that the key to survival on the show is to keep a higher percentage of weight loss than the other contestants each week, but that weight is never compared between fat, water, and muscle. That being the case it was never a great idea to focus on building muscle during my time on The Ranch. Home for good now I’m continuing to exercise to lose more body fat, but I’m also focusing on becoming stronger and building upper body muscle mass which I’ve never had in my entire life. One because it’s important to do for my overall health, but also because I’ll look much stronger and more vital because once you pass 50 that’s just good advice on many fronts.

When I left for California last year, my son Matthew was an ideal weight for his height at about 170 pounds at 6’2” but had no real muscle mass. Myself, and my daughter Jennifer’s journey motivated him to take his body to the next level, and with the help of a personal trainer Matthew put on 25 pounds of muscle during the duration of our season. With the help of Designer Whey Protein, I’m looking forward to training with Matthew to build up my muscle mass with weight lifting and using Designer Whey Protein to enhance my results. Lean protein consumption is the key to repairing and building your bodies muscles on your training days and your rest days. Matthew used Designer Whey’s ‘Protein Blitz’ line while I was on The Ranch to assist in his progress while building lean muscle and I can’t wait to do the same! Because on the Ranch I learned… WHAT YOU’RE FOR STRENGTHENS YOU… and let’s face it, nothing strengthens you like building muscle!

If you’d like to keep up with our families ongoing health & wellness journey, post Biggest Loser, we share what’s working for us at…

With the help of The Biggest Loser Protein, Patrick House and Adam Hurtado crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon like the true champions they are. We recently caught up with Patrick and Adam, who just so happen to be among our favorite The Biggest Losers from Season 10. Here’s how they trained, fueled up with Biggest Loser Protein and completed one of the toughest marathons in the country:

If you’re like us, you’re probably amazed at the transformations The Biggest Loser Contestants undergo by season’s end. Just how do past BL contestants keep the weight off once they leave the ranch? They run marathons…the BOSTON marathon that is!

Ask anyone who’s ever run a 5K, let alone a full marathon, and they’ll tell you how important it is to have a good training program in place. A combination of cross-training, stretching and of course, long runs will get even a beginning runner across the finish line. What runners might not tell you is how important protein is when training for an endurance event. Protein is needed for the repair of broken down muscle caused during high endurance events like marathons. The Biggest Loser Protein is loaded with the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) the key amino acids which fuel intense training and are vital to recovery.

1. A year ago, would you have ever imagined you would be running a marathon?

Patrick: No way. If you would have told me a year ago I would be running the 2011 Boston Marathon, I would have pulled a stomach muscle laughing.

Adam: Never in my wildest dreams!

2. Which did you find more physically challenging: A typical training session on the Ranch or running the Boston Marathon?

Patrick: I would say the Boston Marathon simply because of the time frame of doing the marathon as compared to a Ranch workout. Ranch workouts were usually about 3 hours. The marathon is 4-5 hours or more.

Adam: Tough question but my hat is off to the Boston Marathon. It was a true mental challenge.

3. How did you prepare for the Boston Marathon?

Patrick: I prepared for the Boston Marathon by running 3 days a week, different distances and paces, and doing one long run a week, building up gradually to a 18 mile run 2 weeks before the marathon. Then I tapered down my training to get ready for the run.

Adam: I prepared for Boston with a combination of running, spinning, weight training & yoga/stretching.

4. What role did The Biggest Loser Protein play in your preparation for the marathon?

Patrick: The Biggest loser Protein was really important to my training schedule. I always ate a protein bar or made a shake after my runs to help refuel my body.

Adam: I used The Biggest Loser Protein pre & post workout to stay fueled for my workouts as well as to repair my muscles after training.

5. What was your time? Where you satisfied with your time?

Patrick: My time was 5:12:38, which is not blazing by any means, but it is 33 minutes faster than my Biggest Loser marathon time. I improved and I am proud of that. I am scheduled to run Boston again next year, with about 3 or 4 marathons between now and then. Hopefully I will put up a better time next year and keep improving.

Adam: My time was 6hrs & 42 seconds. I was extremely satisfied to have finished! It was a very humbling experience. I was honored to be able to run for the American Liver Foundation’s Run for Research Team.

6. What advice would you give someone who is struggling with his/her weight and wants to make a change, but doesn’t know how?

Patrick: I always say that you have to start small. Make and set small goals for yourself and as you achieve them, your self confidence and self esteem will improve also. Anyone can do what I have done. They just have to draw their line in the dirt and say they are not going to live the same lifestyle they have been living.

Adam: I would recommend the resources that I turned to when returning home from The Biggest Loser Ranch. I relied on the support of my family, friends, and decided it was my time to change. Food journaling, no fast foods, no soda, and the addition of The Biggest Loser Protein to my diet kick started my weight loss journey.

7. What was the best advice you’ve ever received with regards to your Biggest Loser Journey?

Patrick: I remember Bob telling me early on that I didn’t gain 200 lbs overnight, and in the same sense, I am not going to lose 200 lbs overnight. I knew losing weight was going to be hard, so I prepared myself mentally for that going into the journey. I feel like I really made the most of my time.

Adam: The best advice I’ve received was from my brother Ryan. He said, “To never stop believing in myself. Rest assured that your whole family is behind you & that we love you no matter what the outcome may be.” Ryan was my inspiration and motivation to get healthy like he had himself.

8. What fun and challenging events do you have planned in the near future?

Patrick: I have a couple more marathons planned. I want to run NYC Marathon. I also am planning on trying to run the Cayman Island marathon in December. My brother lives down there, so that should be a lot of fun.

Adam: I am cycling 100 miles this Sunday May 1st in LA to raise money for the American Diabetes Assoc. Also, I just signed up for the 2011 NYC Marathon! I’m hooked. Thank you The Biggest Loser Protein for properly fueling my demanding nutritional needs! I appreciate all of your support.

Excitement is mounting as The Biggest Loser, Season 9 is getting down to the wire. Don’t miss the big finale on May 25!

Casting for Season 10 is in full swing. Recently, we were lucky enough to attend casting calls in Phoenix and Los Angeles where Ali Vincent greeted hopefuls and handed out sample packs of TBL Red Raspberry and Blue Blueberry Protein•2Go.

Both casting calls drew a record number of people who are eager to join the Season 10 cast of The Biggest Loser. Only 350-500 hopeful contestants were expected in Phoenix but over 700 came out. Los Angeles also drew a big crowd with more than 1,100 hopefuls! At both casting calls, Designer Whey greeted future contestants and fans, sharing information on the importance of protein in everyday diet. The Biggest Loser protein is an integral part of daily nutrition on the Biggest Loser Ranch. As the show’s contestants are eliminated weekly, Designer Whey provides each contestant with protein powder to help them achieve their weight loss and fitness goals. Designer Whey is excited to be part of the life changing journey for many Biggest Loser contestants and hopefuls.

Our own Camille Gibson, a contributing blogger for… Designer Whey, recently braved a cold and rainy Detroit day for her chance to get on the Biggest Loser, Season 10. A big fan of the show, Camille’s got what it takes to not only be a star contestant, but she has the will and determination to go all the way! Good Luck Camille! Wish Camille Good luck on her Designer Whey blog page HERE >

Alright, I am going to start right off with the winners…Helen won the Biggest Loser Competition and $250,000. Who knew!!!! Her final weigh in was 117 pounds. Tara came so darn close and as most people expected her to win. And the winner of the $100,000 was Jerry. He was booted off in the second week and the oldest contestant TBL has ever had. He lost 177 pounds! That is true motivation that you can do this at home.

The show started out with who was going to win the third spot. Was it going to be Mike or Ron? Mike wins and by the way looked HOT! Just before they announce Mike winning, there was a great commercial with Bob talking about The Biggest Loser Protein Powder and what it can do for you. Thanks Bob!

The Biggest Loser Protein by DESIGNER WHEY

The public also got to vote in either Amanda or Erin to next seasons TBL. Amanda won and we wish her luck. To everyone who is going for health we wish you much success in your endeavors and don’t forget to include Designer Whey Protein in your meal plans.

See you next season!

Well, one more show after this! The final four (Helen, Tara, Mike and Ron) each came home to very big celebrations. The next morning, the players were all shocked to see boxes marked “The Biggest Loser” waiting for them on their doorsteps. They knew that inside that box contained a challenge. Inside the box was a DVD announcing their challenge and on their television screen was Ali announcing that the final players had 26 days to train, because they would participating in a full 26.2 mile marathon. Yikes! The really exciting apart before they started the marathon was Designer Whey would donate $10,000 to each person if they finished the race to the charity of their choice!

At mile five, Ron had to stop running to get his knee checked out. Meanwhile, mid-way through Tara’s marathon, season five winner Ali Vincent joined her on the run while Helen was joined by last season’s winner, Michelle.

Tara only had one more mile to go and she was joined by Jillian. She warned Jillian that she better keep up because nobody was going to stop her. Tara was the first one to cross the finish line. Again, she wins another challenge!!! Helen was the second to cross the finish line and couldn’t believe she actually did it. Ron’s knee was really giving him problems, but that didn’t stop his determination in wanting to finish the marathon and he finished. YEAH. And at the end of the marathon, they were each handed an oversize check from Designer Whey to their charity of choice.

Now for the weigh in…Stress is happening with all 4 players. Ali told everyone that the two players who fell below the yellow line could be eliminated. The player with the highest percentage of weight loss would be guaranteed a spot in the finals, and the two remaining players would find out their fate at the hands of America, who would be voting from home. Oh, the pressure.

The players all lost weight while they were home for the 26 days. But, it was Tara who had lost enough weight to guarantee herself a spot in the finals. Are we surprised? Tara was going to be joined by Helen at the finals. Now, what will America do with Ron and Mike? America will vote one of them in next week. Remember Ron has always wanted his son Mike to be in the finals and pleaded his case to the voting public. Will America agree? We will find out next week!
