I had one of the best games in my life on March 5th, 2010. All the hard work and sacrifice for years and years chasing a dream that didn’t exist finally came to life. My team, Amp 1, took on the Mattituck high school seniors/staff. We are a group of individuals who are all amputees and have a story to tell. Stepping out on that court we knew we were the automatic underdogs just because of the way we looked, all missing a leg. But we train hard and have more heart than most people. We truly feel that use using Designer Whey products like the waters and Blitzes help us out a great deal. We as amputees that play stand up basketball have to work ten times harder than most people to just get around on the court. By us using the products it helps gives us the edge we need to push through and get to the next level of competition. With our hard work and heart, we beat an able bodied team in New York playing stand up basketball. Amputees beat able bodies! It was a big accomplishment for Amp 1 and for everything we have been fighting for for years and years. Many people told us this would never happen and it couldn’t be done, it was impossible. But we are setting out on our own to prove the impossible can be possible. With a victory like we had in New York, it’s just the beginning for us and our inspirational motivational movement that we feel will affect many in the entire country.

Next we move on to my home state Texas. We will be playing for Camp Sanguinity, a camp for kids with cancer and blood disorders. I went to this camp as a camper when I was battling my cancer and continue to go back every year as a counselor. All the proceeds raised for this game will all go to the camp. We again will be playing an all able bodied team with a combination of camp/hospital staff. This will be our biggest event yet. We all have been training hard for the past month or so getting ready for this event. We go through the protein waters very quickly while playing basketball and I myself like to drink the Blitz powders before and sometimes after my workouts. Since I have been drinking Designer Whey, I can tell and feel a huge difference in my stamina and my performance on the court. With three weeks away till our next big event, we are in focus mode and doing what we feel God kept us all alive for to help others with our gift. On May 22, 2010, Amp 1 will again make the statement that with hard work, determination, and faith you can reach your dreams and goals.

As I approach the final week before I leave for New York to play in one of the biggest games of my life, my training is becoming more intense. During this past week I lifted weights four days out of the five weekdays. Before I hit the gym, I like to drink a ProteinBlitz powder drink. I truly feel this helps me during my workouts. Before when I didn’t drink ProteinBlitz, my workouts were good, but I felt like I stayed at the same workout level. Drinking ProteinBlitz before my workouts, I in some way feel more energized and feel like I have more endurance during my workouts. This in return helps me push myself harder with my workouts and I am able to get more out of the workouts I am doing. I wasn’t able to this week, but normally I also like to drink another ProteinBlitz 30 minutes after my workout. This stuff is amazing to me and has truly helped me with my high activity level, especially since I am an above the knee amputee.

On Friday, and this past weekend, I focused more on my basketball game. I stayed after the gym closed and worked on my game. Trying to focus more on my endurance and mobility, since I am an amputee, I ran alot more this weekend and worked on different moves to try to beat my defender. Of course all of this can quickly test my endurance, but it was nice to have the protein waters during this type of workout to help. I do stay very active and I am in pretty good shape given my amputation, but I can definitely tell a difference when I do drink the protein waters and blitz while I am practicing or playing a basketball game. I tend to not get as tired as quick and I feel I have a small boost of endurance to continue going.

I felt this past week and weekend with my weight training and basketball practice was one of the best I have had in awhile. This coming week is my final week before I leave for New York to play in a stand up basketball game that my team, Amp 1, will be playing against an all high school team. The game will really be amputees vs. able bodied athletes. Even though we will be playing for a good cause, this game will be a big test for us. I know we are going in the game as the underdogs just because of our amputations. Amputees usually play basketball in a wheelchair, but Amp 1 doesn’t. We play stand up basketball just like everyone else and created this outlet on our own. I feel if we can go to New York and beat an all able bodied team, it could possibly help take Amp 1 to the next level. That is why I train and work as hard as I possibly can to make sure my leg and game are at their peak so I can leave it all on the court that night. Designer Whey products have definitely helped play a major role in my performance this past year in helping me perform to my best ability. New York, Amp 1 is coming!
