If you haven't heard of Krav Maga (pronounced "krahv muh-GAH"), you will soon. It's an intense, calorie-torching workout that's sweeping the nation.

If you haven’t heard of Krav Maga (pronounced “krahv muh-GAH”), you will soon. It’s an intense, calorie-torching workout that’s sweeping the nation. Developed by the Israeli army, Krav Maga literally means “contact combat.” Developed by Hungarian boxer and wrestler Imrich Lichtenfeld in the 1930s, the technique was first used by Israeli underground paramilitary organizations. When Israel became an official country in 1948, Lichtenfeld was appointed Chief Instructor and Combat Trainer for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Since then, Krav Maga has spread, and it’s now practiced in over 30 countries around the world.

If you’re in need of shedding a few pounds AND looking to learn a little self-defense, Krav Maga might just be the ideal workout for you. The following are a few advantages that you can experience from Krav Maga training:

1. It’s a Great Way to Get in Shape. FAST. Krav Maga is one of the most physically demanding forms of self defense in the world. As you train you’ll start losing weight while building up muscle. You’ll build up stamina, strength, as well as flexibility and endurance. Most Krav Maga trainers report that a one-hour class can burn up to 1,000 or more!

2. You’ll Be Able to Defend Yourself and Others. Krav Maga will teach you how protect yourself in almost any dangerous situation. Learning how to keep yourself safe in actual day to day situations is important, and Krav Maga can help you learn these techniques.

3. Build Self-Confidence. Having self confidence is important in everything you do. Krav Maga helps you work on your “reactions” and the more you learn and train, the more you will build up your self-confidence.

4. Improved Self-Awareness. When you are learning Krav Maga you will learn how to be aware of your situation at any time. This is an important technique to learn because self defense on your part will actually begin with you being aware of your surroundings.

5. Stress Relief. Taking Krav Maga is great for relieving stress, since you’ll learn how to deal with stress and how to function even when you are under great amounts of stress. The physical activity will release endorphins, help to clear your head and reduce overall stress.

6. It’s Fun. Many people who train in Krav Maga say that it’s a really fun way to get in and stay in shape. You’ll enjoy getting to meet new people who are on the cutting edge of fitness as well as learning invaluable ways to protect yourself.

It’s smart, realistic, and attainable. A 5K (3.1 miles) is the perfect distance for first-timers. You’ll also find that finishing your first race is very rewarding. Most first-time 5K’ers have a blast crossing the finish line and can’t wait for their next race. If you want to join the thousands of happy runners who complete several 5Ks every year, here are a few tips to get you started.

1) The first thing you need to do is find a 5K. Summer and fall are the most popular seasons for road races, but you can find ones all year in some areas. Active.com is a great resource for finding a race in your area. Once you register, make sure you tell everyone you know that you’re running your fist 5K. It’ll be easier to stick to your goal once you make it public.

2) It’s time to start training. You can find lots of information online, in running magazines and in books about how to properly train for a 5K. Below is an eight-week training schedule to help get you to the finish line. It assumes that you can already run at least 1.5 miles. If you’ve never run before, follow this step-by-step plan for building a running base. If those programs don’t seem challenging enough for your running level, try this advanced beginner 5K training schedule.

If you haven’t had a recent physical, visit your doctor to get cleared for running.

Notes about the schedule:

Mondays and Fridays: Mondays and Fridays are rest days. Rest is critical to your recovery and injury prevention efforts, so don’t ignore rest days. Your muscles actually build and repair themselves during your rest days. So if you run every day without taking days off, you won’t see much improvement.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays: After you warm up, run at a comfortable pace for the designated mileage. Make sure you cool down and stretch after your run.

Each week, you’ll increase your runs by a quarter mile, which is a lap on most outdoor tracks. If most of your runs are on the road and you’re not sure how far you run, you can figure out the mileage by using sites such as MapMyRun.com. Or, you can always drive your route in your car and measure the mileage using your car odometer.

Wednesdays: Do a cross-training (CT) activity (biking, swimming, elliptical trainer) at easy to moderate effort for 30 to 40 minutes. If you’re feeling very sluggish or sore, take a rest day.

Sundays: This is an active recovery day. Your run should be at an easy, comfortable pace, which helps loosen up your muscles. Or, you can do a run/walk combination.

Note:
You can switch days to accommodate your schedule. So if you’re busy on another day and prefer to workout on a Monday or Friday, it’s fine to swap a rest day for a run day.

3) Make sure you stay hydrated, especially on hot days. Here’s some great information on staying properly hydrated.

4) Last but NOT least, nutrition is key to a successful training period and run. You should eat healthy, wholesome foods and get at least 1 gram of protein for every pound of your body weight. Designer Whey shakes make great in-between meals during training. And don’t forget your Protein 2Go packs to hydrate and nourish your muscles after your run.

My name is Paul Vinson, in 2004 I was diagnosed with kidney failure. I was put on dialysis, five hours a day, three days a week. This went on for almost six years. I finally got my kidney transplant september 4th 2009. I was in the hospital for over a month. When I got home I weighed 175 pounds and was told not to lift anything over 25 pounds. Well, that was seven months ago and on may 12th 2010, I benched 300 pounds and weighed in at 210 pounds. And I owe it all to Designer Protein. I have been taking Designer Protein for more than 15 years. Its the only supplement I take. And now you know why. I still have a ways to go, but as long as I keep training, eating right, working out, and taking my protein powder three times a day. I will reach my goals. Thanks Designer Protein.

Hey Friends,

Down 11.5 pounds in 4 weeks! Can I have a whoo-hoot? Thanks to a lot of hard work, a weight loss challenge at Nutrition ‘N’ More Club here in Grand Rapids Michigan and my Designer Whey Weight Control Protein Powders. Finally the scale is going down. My coach has me on 158 grams of protein and a 1500 calorie eating plan. I had a hard time getting in all my protein without getting too many calories so coach Dorris told me to add egg whites to my shake…I was like ewwww, I don’t think so. BUT….I did it after tasting a shake she made. I had no clue there was raw egg whites in my shake. Let me tell you the egg white makes your shake like cake batter. It is so creamy and dreamy you will not believe that it’s only 216 calories with a whooping 34 grams of protein. My eating plan consists of a shake for breakfast, a snack, then a shake for lunch, a snack and Normal Dinner and an after dinner snack. Now my snack maybe almonds or cheese stick with some apple.

Here are my 2 favorite recipes.

Cake Batter…YUM!

1 Cup Skim Milk

1 Serving of Designer Whey’s Weight Control French Vanilla Protein Powder

1 tablespoon Sugar Free Jello White Chocolate Flavor pudding

Dash of stevia or splenda

1 teaspoon real vanilla

2 raw egg white (optional)

8 ice cubes

dash of cinnamon

Smoothitize in a blender let sit 2-3 minutes and enjoy

Strawberry Cheese Cake

1 cup skim milk

1 serving of Designer Whey’s Strawberry Protein Powder

1 tablespoon Sugar Free Jello Cheese Cake flavor pudding

Dash of stevia or splenda

1 teaspoon real vanilla

dash of cinnamon

2 raw egg white (optional)

8 ice cubes

Smoothitize in a blender let sit 2-3 minutes and enjoy

Now get this…

216 calories

34 grams of protein power *w/out eggs 24 grams

2 grams of sugar

You can be very creative with 1 tablespoon of sugar free jello pudding there are tons of variety, it only ads 25 calories to the mix. I am going to see how it freezes, maybe our answer to ice cream?

Did you watch this week’s Biggest Loser make over show??? OH MY GOSH! The contestants look amazing. I think Daris looked the most different. Koli needs to ditch the glasses. They dressed him like a nerd, but a cute nerd! Mike is very handsome…I would have never thought that he would be that cute. Ashley is a doll, she has a tiny waist! Sunshine with her hair all straightened…WOW! I hope I have such an amazing transformation when I lose the weight I need to lose. Now that would be fun! I have no clue what I would look like I have never been thin.

Well friends I gotta get moving, have a challenge to win here! Not only that but I am on my whey to a new me.

We were pleasantly surprised with the great flavor of Designer Whey Cranapple Protein Water. Having consumed just about every protein shake on the planet, we were looking for something new, and boy did we find it. This protein water was smooth, flavorful, and sweet. There was only the slightest hint of the dreaded vegetable-juice-blend taste, and the sweet cranapple taste more than made up for it. It has a little body, but is not like syrup. If you are looking for an alternative to mixing protein shakes, then you should definitely give this protein water a try. Its packaging is also cool, with a graduated scale on the rib of the bottle that shows how much protein you have consumed. We really liked this product, and we look forward to trying some of the other flavors from Designer Whey.

Each sixteen ounce serving of Designer Whey Cranapple Protein Water contains only 60 calories, 2mg of cholesterol, 25mg of sodium, and one gram of sugar. These are very good numbers, especially since each serving also provides 40mg of potassium, 12 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber. This protein water is sweetened with sucralose. The only allergent listed is milk.

Valeria, a beriatric surgery patient got some DESIGNER WHEY to try and here is her honest review of the product.

www.valmg.com Reviews DESIGNER WHEY

Designer Whey graciously offered to help me in my endeavor to lose weight through bariatric surgery. They sent me two 4 pound containers of their Designer Whey Original Protein Powder in the strawberry flavor. I have been using Designer Whey Protein Powders exclusively since coming out of surgery.

I haven’t mentioned it previously but until I made the decision to have bariatric surgery I associated protein products with unpleasant tasting shakes. I couldn’t have been more mistaken. You can mix the Designer Whey with all sort of things including water and milk, or even foods. Their Strawberry has actually become my favorite protein drink of choice because I can do so many things with it. The taste is that of a mild strawberry. My favorite way to drink it is to have it is in a Strawberry Smoothie. I love flavored waters and mixing this with plain water makes for a pretty tasty Strawberry water. If you’re into milk, mixing this with skim milk is like a mild strawberry Quik. My favorite ways to eat it are mixing it with vanilla pudding, mixing it with plain yogurt and mixing it with jello.

Designer Whey Protein Supplement can be purchased online and in stores across the nation and available in Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla Praline and Chocolate Caramel Peanut. One serving has 18 grams of protein and 100 calories.

A week ago I had lap-band surgery which means that for the last week all my meals have been protein shakes. I want to start out by telling everyone that for the first time in decades I can honestly say, “I am full.” Why? I’m sure it has something to do with the procedure, but I am also sure it has a lot to do with Designer Whey Protein Supplement. In my first week post-surgery, I logged 3.8 pounds of body fat loss–not bad for an old lady who weighed in at 228 and needs to exercise.

I have tried other products before this one. They were good. Now I am no expert, BUT Designer Whey is better. As I’m losing the pounds, my family has not heard my constant whining, “I’m hungry,” and that matters as much to them as it does to me. I know that it has decreased my appetite. I suspect that it has increased my metabolism. Previous to this I was tired and fatigued. Now I have strength and lots of energy.

Before buying the product, I decided to do some research on it. Designer Whey now has 95% isolate content. It comes from cow’s milk and is a byproduct of cheese making. I have been using the two pound size, which has 34 servings per container. A four pound container and a 17 ounce container also are available. Counting calories, I really appreciate its 100 calories, 18 grams protein, and 3 grams carbohydrates per serving.

Designer Whey Protein Supplement is available in a variety of flavors including Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla Praline and Chocolate Caramel Peanut. Flavors are available in 12.7 oz (13 servings), 2 lb (34 serving) and 4.4 lb. (76 servings) containers. Products can be purchased online and in stores across the nation.
